This three-day course takes delegates through each phase of a project by applying the Process Groups and Knowledge Areas that have been defined by the world's largest project management body, the Project Management Institute (PMI)®.
All relevant course materials are provided, including the core textbook 'Project Management Body of Knowledge, PMBOK® Guide'. The course concludes with a mock 40-question examination. The PMI website, www.pmi.org, has full details of the applicable fees and how delegates can arrange for the actual exam to be taken at a venue and date that meets their specific needs.
The course is suitable for less experienced project staff who wish to adopt a more structured approach to the management of projects, especially those who are working towards the Certified Associate in Project Management certification (CAPM)®.
At the end of this course you will be able to:
The CAPM® preparation course uses QA's sample exam questions and accelerated-learning techniques to ensure that theory is embedded and delegates fully understand the tools and techniques described in the PMBOK® Guide.
The course will cover the following syllabus areas:
Project Management Framework
Delegates are introduced to the world of projects and project management and to the overall structure of the PMBOK® Guide. The benefits of adopting a formal project management approach will also be outlined.
The 47 PMI processes are grouped into five categories known as Process Groups. The iterative implementation of these collections of activities helps to ensure that the project is delivered in a structured manner.
The PMI processes are further grouped into 10 separate Knowledge Areas. These 10 Knowledge Areas are used on most projects, most of the time. The course is structured around each of these Knowledge Areas.
Throughout the course, delegates will be exposed to numerous examples of examination-type questions. We will undertake a number of exercises and 'question-and-answer' sessions that will help to consolidate the learning, thereby ensuring that delegates are adequately prepared for the final examination that can be arranged for a later date in a designated test centre.

No formal prerequisites exist for this course although some prior exposure to project-related work would be useful. The full list of prerequisites for undertaking the CAPM® examination and the application process can be found at www.pmi.org. Delegates who apply for the examination after attending the course can use this event in order to meet the PMI's requirement for 23 hours of formal project management training before being accepted to sit the exam (if the required 1500 hours of project experience have not been achieved).
Delegates are not provided with any formal pre-reading before this course. Anyone who is a member of the PMI is granted access to a personal pdf copy of the PMBOK® Guide. Delegates would benefit from familiarising themselves with its content prior to attending the course.
